Batting Practice ASM
By Allen Lee (allen@dosgames.com)

Requirements
------------
AShell or SOS

About
-----
Batting Practice isn't a full game per se. Rather, it's the batting/pitching engine stripped from a baseball game which I probably won't finish.

Features
---------
- One and two player modes
- 9 different pitchers
- Over 15 different pitches (includes breaking and offspeed pitches)

Controls
--------
2nd - to swing the bat
Del - to quit
1-9 - to select a menu choice
Arrow Keys - to move the pointer (in two player mode)

Starting Instructions
---------------------
1) Transfer BATTING.83p to your calculator, and fire up your shell of choice (AShell or SOS).
2) Run the program.
3) Choose 1 or 2 player mode.
4) Choose a pitcher.

Objective
---------
Batting Practice doesn't have a scoring system for nominal reasons.

In one player mode, you basically see the ball and hit the ball. You should discern between pitches inside and outside of the strike zone (the rectangle) since swinging at the latter will result in a "miss." If you make contact you will be rewarded with a message saying "hit" (and nothing else). Note that certain pitches can "break" out of the strike zone and vice versa.

Two player mode is a bit more interesting. One player chooses the type and starting location of the pitch, and the other player gets to bat.

Pitchers
--------
The pitchers of Batting Practice each have a unique arsenal of pitches. Here is a brief description of each:

Greg Maddux - a finesse pitcher whose success lies in keeping hitters off balance.
Randy Johnson - a left-handed power pitcher with a feared slider.
Rob Nen - a power pitcher armed with a hard slider and splitfinger.
Pedro Martinez - a rare power/finesse pitcher.
Kevin Brown - a power sinkerball pitcher with "nasty" stuff.
Randy Jones - a crafty meatballer.
Roger Clemens - a power-pitching strike-out artist.
Tim Wakefield - an unpredictable knuckleball pitcher.
Curt Schilling - another power pitcher who gets by mostly on heat.

Known Bugs/Limitations
----------------------
- You can't quit while the pitch is coming at you.
- Sometimes the bat doesn't look like it's hitting the ball when you swing and get a hit.
